The top of the pencil case locks in to place, pushing the contents upwards to allow them to be easily chosen from the box. The clip to secure the pencil case on to the side of the table is a good idea but it does require the table to be the correct size which is around 21mm thick. The pencil case will stand on top of the table and is just as effective there.
